The Libertarian Moment
The generation raised on the Internet has essentially been raised libertarian, even if they’ve never even heard of the word. Native netizens now entering college exhibit a kind of broad-based tolerance toward every manner of ethnic, religious, and sexual-orientation grouping in a way that would have seemed like science fiction just a generation ago. The products and activities they enjoy and co-opt most, from filesharing to flying discount airlines to facebooking, are excrescences of the free-market ideas of deregulation and decontrol.

zeugt aus meiner Sicht von extrem selektiver Wahrnehmung.

Ich denke, es ist abhängig davon, wen du als “native netizen” bezeichnen würdest. Ich glaube nicht, dass der Autor tatsächlich so naiv ist und jeden dieser unserer Generation so bezeichnen würde. Aber durch das Internet kommt man schon sehr rasch in Kontakt mit Leuten, mit denen man sonst nie etwas zu tun gehabt hätte. Gerade wenn das verbindende Element zum Beispiel der Anarchismus ist oder World of Warcraft. Da spricht man zuerst über diese Dinge und danach über Ethnien und sexuelle Orientierung. Das heisst, manche Leute werden entdecken, das zwischen ihnen und einem Thailänder oder Kongolesen eine grössere “Seelenverwandtschaft” besteht als zwischen ihnen und vielen Schweizern zum Beispiel.
Aber ja, der Artikel trieft nur so von Optimismus. Ein Optimismus, den ich gerne teilen würde, aber nicht kann.
